Elohim

אֱלֹהִים     Elohim

This is another proper name for God, in most English translations this word is translated “God”. Remember Yahweh, Elohim, and Adonai are all proper names in the Hebrew Scriptures, Yahweh being the four letter unspeakable name.  The “Shama” Deuteronomy 6:4 tells us “… the L-RD is ONE”.  God is a jealous God, He does not share His deity with another.

Even so, we know again from scripture of His plural nature: The Father, The Son, The Holy Spirit.  Elohim is a word which tells us in the text of His plural nature.  In Hebrew the “im” ending is the ending of a word to indicate plurality, God is telling us of His plural nature.

Genesis 1:26 Then God said. “Let US make man in Our image, …” this is one of the locations even the English translations could not avoid using this plurality in the text.  God created by Himself, without the help of anyone and at the same time Yeshua tells us the creation was formed through Him (John 1:1-5), and again the Holy Spirit brooded on the waters in the creation (Genesis 1:2).  The triune nature is encapsulated in the Hebrew plural name: Elohim.

John 1:1-5  In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being. In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men. The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.   NASU
